The Green Adobe

It's time to talk about my second trip which i took this year. Quite a long drive it was to reach this Green Adobe and as the name suggests it's all greenery and nothing more that reflects on. The road takes you through thick evergreen forest for miles which is the Periyar National Park. The State as such spellbinds us with the beauty of nature, culture and cuisine. And i very well did experience all this compelling and captivating aspects of God's Own Country.

The adobe is Thekkady in the Idduki district of Kerala also known for the Natural Spices Haven.

I chose for myself a very secluded plantation resort which kind of turned out to be an interesting stay.

A quiet cottage at the end of the lane with swans, white peace lily flowers, honeybees buzzing around for nectar and other edible fruits, nuts around was nature in its purest source.

Being a spice and coffee plantation , tour of the place will show you the many natural spices grown here from pepper to cardamom to cloves. The smell of all those around you evokes innocence and delight within you. I was delighted with some rare bird watching and to do this it’s absolutely necessary to become part of the silence. When we learn to listen to silence, we shall have all our answers and find our solace.

The authentic kerala cuisine has always been on my favorite list with the richness of coconut and aroma of spices, it entangles your taste buds to a different era altogether.

After all Life is a mixture of spices explored with passion can be the secret recipe for a fascinating, exciting and inspiring one to live.

So fill your life with these spices to create stories of moments to tell. Not only will adding variety of spice enhance flavor but this experience of taste will linger on for long , long time.

Here I found myself in the aroma of coffee,
                            smell of delicate spices and
in aura of love for nature.

Usually the main tourist attraction here is the National park and the spice plantation tours but I came here looking for something unconventional, the art forms which dwell in this region. The home grown theatres here exhibit Kathakali dance form and Kalari Martial art. The evening show was worth a wait and I assure you that you wouldn’t have wanted to miss being part of this show. Such raw talent right in front of me, gave me goosebumps and a sense of fufillment to my wanting soul.

Kathakalī or the story play is distinguished by its colorful makeup, costumes and face masks. The story which the performers depict with their hand and facial gestures feels like a operatic performance where an ancient story is dramatized.

Starting from the long hours of makeup, to acting out the scene , background music with drums, the hand facial gestures, the characters dialogue in the backdrop all ensemble into a resonant oneness.

Kalari Martial Art one of the oldest existing is a very methodical training regime with techniques like hand to hand combat and pressure point strikes. I cannot describe the element of joy I had in me watching this so close and the sense of pride for those who have excelled this skill.  I realized that this can only be achieved by way of life with sense of compassion , discipline and the respect for Art.

This day was an experience of a life time, no short of revelation and left me with indelible memories to cherish.

One more day left and this I decided to go on a trekking , off roading in a jeep around a 100 acre spice plantation, and your final destination a peak from where the view was no less than feeling one with the celestial being.

The day your heartbeat resonates with the sound of nature , you will feel most alive.
In this Green Adobe,
I found Love - Love for nature
I found Inspiration - No limits to accomplish
I found Reality - It’s better than dreams
I found my Soul - Heart found the way
